Materials:
105 cm oilcloth
Finished bag height 44 cm, width 55 cm. Straps width 4 cm, usable length 62 cm
1. Cut a piece of oilcloth 105 cm high and 58 cm wide. Also cut two pieces for the straps, 16 cm wide and 80 cm long.
2. First, sew the straps. Fold and iron the pieces lengthwise in half, then fold the edges once more towards the center fold. This way, the open edge remains inside the strap, and the fabric is quadrupled. Stitch both edges of the strap; the ends can be left open.
3. Fold the bag piece vertically in half, right sides together, and sew the sides. Oilcloth does not fray, but you can overlock or finish the edges with a zigzag stitch for reinforcement. Iron the seams.
4. Iron a 4 + 4 cm hem to the wrong side of the bag's top edge. Attach the straps with pins 17 cm from the edges, so that the strap goes entirely under the hem, folding back over the hem. Sew the top edge of the bag with the straps in place along the bottom and top edges of the hem.
5. Sew the bottom gusset. Keep the bag turned inside out. Position the side seam of the bag so that it is in the middle and a triangular corner forms at the bottom. Measure 13 cm from the bottom corner and sew a double horizontal stitch at this point.
6. Turn the bag right side out, iron the folds, and if desired, topstitch the edges.
