Inspired by nature. Made by the people of the North.

The Tuntu ceramic series is full of northern sentiment. A sentiment conveyed by the people who made the products. A sentiment that we are part of nature, and a sentiment we want to last from generation to generation. Made unhurriedly in the middle of the northern forest, the products are designed primarily to sustainably store and be part of enjoyable dining experiences. To feel good in the hand and convey joy, comfort, and strength to its owner – just like nature itself. To withstand even the fiercest everyday storms, year after year. One generation at a time. Combine products with your existing set, collect them individually or as a series. Use in the bathroom, for decor or in the kitchen. Heat, freeze, store. Whatever feels good.

It feels like
we want to live far north.

We, the people of the North, value room to breathe and the opportunity to be quiet when we wish. Unhurriedness and the deep, pervasive peace of nature. Surprising nature, whose rhythm we must adapt to. Whether we want to or not.

We strongly believe that the meaningfulness of life stems from a deep connection to nature, the courage to do things in one's own way, and the effort put into pursuing dreams. From all of these, as well as Anu and Topi Pentikäinen's passion for art, the company called Pentik was born, to which fate chose northern Posio as its home over 50 years ago. Far in the north, creativity had room to soar and even the wildest dreams found a place to come true. The north is still our home, as our ceramics factory and much more are located there. Because we feel that this is how it should be. Now and in the future.

1971

We felt that we wanted to make ceramics in Finland.

It was the early 1970s. While others were moving away from Posio, Anu and Topi Pentikäinen had moved there instead. The North ultimately offered everything and nothing, the true magic of Lapland. Anu found space to think and be herself, and her artist's soul was born. Her reputation grew, and the press acclaimed the self-taught beauty who boldly lived her dream in the heart of Lapland. All the ceramics they could make were sold. Anu Pentik's beloved hobby of ceramics and leatherwork, a way of life, began to put food on the table. Ceramics turned into gold, and dreams came true.

Even today, Anu is the first to sneak into the ceramics factory, turn on the lights, and hurry to see how the previous day's works turned out. Not because she has to, but out of passion and drive. A way of life. In these uncertain times, we feel it's especially important to cherish domestic ceramic expertise. We want to produce high-quality products that are timeless and accompany meaningful moments from one generation to the next. We believe that our ceramic products, crafted by many hands, convey a piece of emotion to their user. From human to human.

”The starting point for designing the Tuntu ceramic series was, in addition to beauty, functionality, versatility, and the product feeling good in the hand. With wonderful colors and interesting glazes, the series' products reflect the changing seasons of the North and the colorful palette of nature. Thanks to its versatility, the product series suits all kinds of homes.”

Sounds laborious?

The production of Tuntu series products takes a total of 15 days from molding to firing. The journey from clay to a finished vessel goes through 12-13 work stages, and during the manufacturing process, the product passes through the hands of an average of 12 ceramics experts. The uniqueness of the Tuntu series lies in our self-mixed vibrant glazes, and the interesting colors and flows of the products are achieved by glazing them twice instead of once.

A sense of everyday life.

Seems to work.

The collection consists of various parts that are perfectly suited for use either alone or combined with each other. With the delicious colours of the Tuntu series, you can brighten up your existing dinnerware or collect a complete, substantial dinnerware set. Due to their practical design, the products can also be used for durable everyday storage. Some of the plates fit as lids on top of the bowls, the dishes stack well inside each other, and they can be conveniently piled.
